The A-Class is a superb boat in light winds with high performance up to Force 6 due to the flexibility of the rig settings. It has daggerboards for high efficiency and superb pointing, and a flexible mast with a loose footed main sail. Adjustments are possible to the outhaul, downhaul, kicker and lower shrouds. With a full cut sail this gives terrific scope for control of sail shape. It also has a trapeze for the ultimate sailing challenge, but a una rig for simplicity of sail handling (13 sqm sail area to A class specification). The result: Superb quality, ultimate strength at minimum weight. Plans are also available from the RYA for the skilled home builder.
